Hi my name’s Phil and I am a person centred counsellor. I offer a sincere and confidential service for many of life challenges that at sometimes affects many of us; I work within Eastbourne and the surrounding areas. My philosophy is whatever challenges us there is always an answer within, and with my support a better quality of life can be!

So why me and why ‘Person Centred Counselling’?

My Core beliefs are honesty, openness and acceptance. Honesty is so important, not just because it creates trust between us but it also allows that freedom just to be us! I always try to be as open as I can and I feel by being this way it breaks down those barriers that stops us being able to express ourselves safely. I am not here to judge you but I am here to listen and feel what it is like, in your life in the most accepting way that I can.  Accepting people for exactly who they are, I feel, allows change to happen because to feel accepted creates trust and allows us that freedom of choice to live the way that we want too.

I totally understand that it can be very difficult to trust or to be open or accepting of others. Things happen in our lives which are painful and can have a direct affect on one or all of these traits and it is like we lose something precious that is difficult to find again!

For me the most important aspect of counselling is the relationship with the person sitting opposite me.

I want to create that relationship which is honest, open and accepting so you have the freedom to express yourself and create the life or life style that you want!

Person centred counselling was created by ‘Carl Rogers’ over 80 years ago and has evolved to what it is today. However the principles are the same; ‘if you offer your clients¬† the ,Core Conditions’ then this is enough to allow change to happen.

The three main conditions are ‘Empathy’, ‘Unconditional Positive Regard’ and ‘Congruence’ which translate to openness, acceptance and honesty, which as I have stated are my core beliefs too.

One of the main reasons I chose to become a person centred counsellor was because I believe that I am not an expert of you but what I do have is the ability to reflect and explore what it is that you want and support you completely throughout your journey!

I am a qualified ‘Person Centred Counsellor’ and a member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists). I have almost 10 years experience as a counsellor covering a variety of issues including ‘Substance Misuse’; ‘Personal abuse’ and ‘Bereavement’ for which I have ben trained and certificated.

I have worked with a variety of people engaging in short and long term counselling. I feel that I am flexible to each individuals needs according to their personality and circumstances.

Please feel free to call me to discuss your circumstance and what I can offer you. .. I look forward to your call!
